How to severely save on food in Paris
I was pushed to write this post by several entries in this community that food is expensive in Paris.
In general, this post was thought of as a long-beautiful list of places to eat, without killing the budget, with addresses and photos, but until I reach my feet, hands, and camera … For now, rather a list of general recommendations:
Takeaway is cheaper
In bakeries, coffee shops and some kiosks you can eat at the proposed tables, or you can take it away.In some places, the difference is twofold: I prefer to pay 1 euro for a croissant, instead of two, 3.40 for a salad instead of 7, etc. “Takeaway” is denoted “à emporter”, you need to carefully look in the menu. Most restaurants, cafes, bakeries, snack bars in the daytime offer the so-called Formule or Menu. Usually they include main course / sandwich, dessert and drink. There may be several versions and depending on the cost, the drink will change (volume, coffee or just a soda can), the cost of the dessert, the composition of the main course.
look for cookery, Traiteur. Cheapest – Chinese, Traiteur Asiatique. Inside they always have the same thing: chicken, meat or fish / shrimp with different sauces, several types of noodles, vegetables and salads. Most often, you will be offered the kind of so-called Bobun: a half-liter bowl of hot broth with noodles, meat and vegetables. This bowl can be eaten before dinner, but it costs 5 euros. Yes, it has nothing to do with French cuisine. Cheap and angry.
Cookery also happen to be Greek, French, Lebanese – whatever!
Evaluate your hunger, or sandwich sandwich discord
Somewhere a sandwich is half a baguette with a slice of ham, somewhere a baguette with vegetables, sauces, fillers, etc. But if it is possible to feed miniature girls with such a sandwich, then less miniature girls, as well as men who are hungry after long walks, will not reassure.
Avoid tourist areas. In Montmartre, where I spend a lot of time now, one pancake with nutella costs 3.50 euros. In a pancake on Mutfar street, a pancake weighing 300-400 grams with baked eggplants, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes costs 5. In the first case, you just treat yourself, in the second you calmly walk through before dinner.
buy water in advance or carry an empty bottle with you. Everything is simple: the water in a large supermarket near the metro is, say, 70 cents per liter and a half. A small bottle of water at Sacre-Coeur costs two euros. At the same time, it is necessary to distinguish between different monopay dale and small cookery with their major comrades. The larger the store, the lower the prices inside. In Paris, there are also many drinking fountains – one of them can be drunk, at restaurants and cafes one can ask for a carafe of water – also for free.
Food in Paris is expensive, much more expensive than the same Barcelona, but still these costs can be significantly reduced if you try a little.
